22 million americans will cancel cable service this year [+guide inside]

Americans are now abandoning traditional television at a much faster rate than expected,¬†according to new research. About 22.2 million adults in the US are expected to cancel their cable television service this year — up 33% from 2016. Only 15.4 million people were initially predicted to cancel in 2017, researchers explain. This decline is being driven by an increase in the number of people who have switched to free television services or online streaming, which is often less expensive. The number of people who have never paid for a TV service is also expected to rise by 5.8% this year, to 34.4 million people. Even the number of hours people spend watching TV a day is predicted to drop to below 4 hours this year. However, the number of people watching video online continues to climb.
